Men’s Group Therapy Calgary
A space to talk about what usually goes unsaid.
Carbon Psychology Signature Program: No previous experience required.
Most men don't come to group therapy knowing exactly what they want to say.
They come because something feels off. Stuck. Hard to put into words. And harder to say out loud to the people closest to them.
This group exists for that.
It's not about having it figured out. It's about showing up honestly — and finding out you're not the only one carrying it.
How The Group Works
8 weeks. 90 minutes. Up to 10 men.
Sessions meet weekly on Tuesday evenings, 6:30 – 8:00 PM at our Mission office.
Sessions are structured but conversational. Some weeks you'll talk more. Some weeks you'll listen. There's no pressure to share anything before you're ready. Over time most men find it becomes easier to speak — and the conversations become more direct, honest, and useful.
Week 1: Orientation & Goal-Setting

Week 3: Facing Your Fears, Emotions, and Unique Challenges
Week 4: Relationships & Intimacy
Week 5: Anger & Control
Week 6: Purpose & Identity
Week 7: Loneliness & Belonging
Week 8: Integration & Leaving

FAQ
-
Is it going to be awkward being vulnerable in front of other men?
Most men wonder this before joining. The short answer is yes, briefly — and then it becomes one of the most valuable parts. Hearing another man say what you've been thinking but never said out loud changes something.
-
What kind of men join this group?
Men at different life stages — some in their 20s figuring out direction, others in their 40s navigating relationships or career pressure. The common thread isn't age or situation, it's that something isn't working and they're willing to look at it honestly.
-
Do I have to talk about my feelings?
Not right away. Most men start by listening. You share when you're ready and at your own pace. Nobody is put on the spot.
-
I've never done therapy before. Is that okay?
Completely fine. No prior experience needed. The group is structured to be accessible whether this is your first time or not.
-
How is this different from just talking to my friends?
The group is facilitated by a registered psychologist and structured around growth. It's a different kind of conversation — more honest, more focused, and without the social dynamics that make it hard to be real with people you know.
-
What if it's not for me after the first session?
That's something to discuss with Michael. The consultation before joining is specifically designed to make sure the group is a good fit before you commit.
