Jeremy is a Registered Provisional Psychologist who works with individuals, couples, and families to understand and find freedom from the labels that have been attached to them. With individuals, having conversations about ADHD, autism, depression, anxiety, grief, gender, and medical trauma, highlighting the gaps between how others perceive us and the realities of our experiences. With couples and families identifying who or what has been labelled the “problem,” and orienting members against a problem cycle or pattern instead of a person.
His work is rooted in a humanistic and narrative approach, taking influences from emotion-focused therapy and attachment theory. He also provides Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), a comprehensive approach for trauma and PTSD.
Jeremy’s Approach.
Jeremy’s main goal is to create a space for you to be heard in a way that highlights your story and honours your entire experience, beyond surface level labels that tend to cling to us. He aims to be a facilitator that works alongside you to craft a new, exciting story that reopens forgotten possibilities.
Emotions are central to his work, and he views them as powerful messengers often misunderstood as bad or good, instead of natural sources of information meant to come and go. He acknowledges the link between emotions and gender within our culture, and wishes to expand the emotional experiences of men which are often suppressed. Additionally, he aims to be a helpful resource for women who inextricably live alongside men, who may benefit from a stable male influence to process experiences and explore what trust may look like. One way he aims to embody advocacy and safety is through his focus supporting women with endometriosis.
What it’s like to work with Jeremy.
Warmth and collaboration are two of Jeremy’s primary values in therapy. He believes no-one should go into therapy and leave without feeling accepted and understood, with his sessions facilitated with a spirit of compassion, recognizing and sitting with how hard life can get.
If life feels directionless he will work with you to find structure, but at the core, he sees therapy as fluid and instead of telling you what to do or change, he will work with you, putting your values in the driver’s seat.
Jeremy loves to work with metaphor and seeks to highlight and enhance your creativity in session, believing that working with language from your life is more effective than using overly clinical and clunky jargon.
Personal Note
I grew up in Medicine Hat but since I moved to Calgary for school, I have always been drawn to the big city. I appreciate the opportunities to engage in my many hobbies including soccer, snowboarding, and my recent obsession, salsa dancing.
I am passionate about my work and I love to learn and to be challenged, and when I am not talking about video essays or horror movies with my two sisters, they are pushing me to reflect on life from alternative perspectives.
As much as I am often on the go, I also deeply value relaxation and rest because if we as therapists aren’t treating ourselves with compassion, why would we expect our clients to.
