Angelo brings a background that is genuinely uncommon in the field. Before becoming a psychologist, he worked as a Correctional Officer and Youth Care Worker, giving him direct, real-world experience with trauma, crisis, and the populations most therapists have only read about.

He specializes in complex trauma, emotional dysregulation, chronic shame, and identity instability, and holds a Complex Trauma Certification at Level 2 — training that goes well beyond standard graduate preparation. Many of his Calgary-based clients grew up in emotionally unpredictable or neglectful environments and now carry those patterns into their relationships, their work, and their sense of self.

He works with adults and adolescents, including many second-generation Canadians, who are often high-functioning on the outside but struggling underneath. Most of his clients are self-aware, motivated, and genuinely stuck, not because they haven't tried, but because what they've tried hasn't gone deep enough.

Angelo’s Approach.

Angelo uses EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to work at the root of shame, impulsivity, and relational distress — not just manage the surface symptoms. He also draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and attachment-based approaches, choosing methods based on what each client actually needs.

His work is structured, intentional, and built around measurable change.

Compassion without accountability doesn't create change. And insight without direction doesn't either.

What it’s like to work with Angelo.

Sessions with Angelo tend to feel direct, grounded, and collaborative. He balances honesty with care, creating space for clients to engage with difficult material without feeling judged or overwhelmed.

There is a clear sense of direction in the work. You're not left circling the same issues — sessions are purposeful, focused on understanding what's actually driving your patterns and actively working through them. Many of his clients appear capable and composed on the outside and feel like they're barely holding it together on the inside. Therapy with Angelo is designed for exactly that gap.

He also brings a quiet sense of humour into the work, which can make even the hardest conversations feel more manageable.

Personal Note

I am a Filipino-Canadian psychologist with a lived understanding of the pressures that come with navigating between cultures, family expectation, and identity in a Canadian context. For clients from similar backgrounds, that shared understanding removes a layer of explanation that can otherwise slow the work considerably. Outside the office, I prioritize my physical and mental health through regular training, basketball, and tennis. I believe strongly that physical and psychological wellbeing are deeply connected, something that shows up in how I approach the work with my clients.
