Angelo brings a background that is genuinely uncommon in the field. Before becoming a psychologist, he worked as a Correctional Officer and Youth Care Worker, giving him direct, real-world experience with trauma, crisis, and the populations most therapists have only read about.
He specializes in complex trauma, emotional dysregulation, chronic shame, and identity instability, working with adults who grew up in emotionally unpredictable or neglectful environments and still carry those patterns into their relationships, work, and sense of self. He also holds a Complex Trauma Certification at Level 2, reflecting a depth of training that goes beyond standard graduate preparation.
He works with adults, adolescents, and many second-generation Canadians who are often high-functioning on the outside but struggling with patterns that feel difficult to change. Many of his clients are self-aware, motivated, and genuinely stuck, not because they haven't tried, but because what they've tried hasn't gone deep enough.
Angelo’s Approach.
Angelo specializes in complex trauma, emotional dysregulation, chronic shame, and identity instability — often working with individuals who grew up in emotionally unpredictable environments and continue to feel the weight of those experiences. He holds a Complex Trauma Certification at Level 2, reflecting training that goes well beyond standard graduate preparation.
Using EMDR and Internal Family Systems, he works at the root level of shame, impulsivity, and relational distress rather than managing surface symptoms. He draws from ACT and attachment-based approaches, selecting methods based on what each person actually needs. His areas of focus include complex trauma, BPD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, chronic shame, self-esteem, and relationship patterns.
His work is structured, intentional, and built around measurable change. Compassion without accountability doesn't create change, and insight without direction doesn't either.
What it’s like to work with Angelo.
Sessions with Angelo tend to feel direct, grounded, and collaborative. He balances honesty with care, creating space for clients to engage with difficult material without feeling judged or overwhelmed.
There is a clear sense of direction in the work. You're not left circling the same issues — sessions are purposeful, focused on understanding what's actually driving your patterns and actively working through them. Many of his clients appear capable and composed on the outside and feel like they're barely holding it together on the inside. Therapy with Angelo is designed for exactly that gap. He also brings a quiet sense of humour into the work, which can make even the hardest conversations feel more manageable.
Personal Note
Angelo is a Filipino-Canadian psychologist with a lived understanding of the pressures that come with navigating between cultures, family expectation, and identity in a Canadian context. For clients from similar backgrounds, that shared understanding removes a layer of explanation that can otherwise slow the work considerably.
Outside the office, Angelo prioritizes his physical and mental health through regular training, basketball, and tennis — and believes strongly that physical and psychological wellbeing are deeply connected, something that shows up in how he approaches the work with his clients.
